CNC Router Project

Since Iím so much into computers and electronics, it only took stumbling across one website on how to build your own CNC Router to get me hooked. For those of you that donít know, a CNC Router is a computer controlled tool.CNC stands for ďComputer Numeric ControlĒ.You design something in a drawing program like AutoCad and then translate it to code the CNC controller can understand and it carves out your project automatically.Anyway, thatís a pretty simplified explanation.

There is a wealth of information out there with a couple of community sites full of members that are in all phases of building their own machine.Itís a place people to exchange ideas and help each other out. If you have the patience, you can find some great deals on part by searching ebay.Iím looking at spending around $500 - $700 by the time I complete my machine. If this kind of project sounds interesting, check out the links at the bottom of the page.

I started building my router in March. Every night when I got home from work, I would work on it a little bit at a time. So far I have finished the base, gantry and the controller. The main thing I have left to do is buy the ballscrews and get those mounted.I will add more when I get back to this project.
